Personal Protective Equipment - that includes clothing and safety equipment which work together to minimise the risk of your health and safety. Think hard hats, steel capped boots, high visibility clothing, goggles, gloves and more.
It's not a last resort method and shouldn't be taken for granted - get yourself kitted out. Depending on the job, employers should provide adequate PPE but in the case that they don't, remember, you are not obligated to pay for any levy or be charged in any way for any work-related items like PPE. PPE is a must for your safety.
Employers are responsible for providing PPE but it's your responsibility to follow the workplace health and safety policies and regulations covered in your White Card training course (If you don't know what it is, read more here). As mentioned, employers shouldn't be charging you anything for PPE but they may request you have your own PPE before you're considered to be hired.
